THE VANUATU FILES

In the (new) blog, the posts tagged with Peace Corps - Vanuatu are my musings about my time as a Volunteer.

What is the Peace Corps?

https://www.peacecorps.gov/about/

The Peace Corps is where you can volunteer your time and life to the development of countries and towns in need throughout the world. There are three main goals of the Peace Corps:

1. To help people of interested countries in meeting their need of trained men and women.

2. To help promote a better understanding of Americans on the part of peoples served.

3. To help promote a better understanding of peoples served on the part of Americans

I joined the Peace Corps because I have always been attracted to service, to improving lives, and to world travel. I got most of that when I was a Marine, because the Marines do participate in humanitarian aid and relief efforts. But the USMC devil dog life wasn't for me and I didn't make a career of it. After the Marines and getting a degree I worked as a public servant. I was both a state and federal employee as well a federal contractor. While I like public service, it did not meet my personal need for travel.

So here we go, into a new chapter in my life. Where I hope to marry all of my aspirations, dreams, and skills into a new adventure.

SIX MONTHS INTO THE ADVENTURE...

Six months into being here, that covers pre-service training and integration - here is what I have figured out that I do:

I'm trying to change behaviors and mobilize action while mentoring and teaching to pass on knowledge, skills, and competencies so that the community can meet their water, sanitation, hygiene, and nutritional needs. I've got until July 2021 to make as much impact as possible.
